Sweet Hundred!

The every fun and informative Cakespy put this little list together. It's even more fun than the original! Fun for I'm also going to italicize all of the things I've made. Many of the things were tasted prior to my nut allergies kicking in. Oh how I miss nutty sweets...

"Recently, a website called Very Good Taste started something of an internet fire with a list called "The Omnivore's Hundred", which listed 100 foods which "every good omnivore should have tried at least once in their life." We liked the idea, and inspired by the vegan variation on Hannah Kaminsky's site, we thought--why not make our own Sweet 100!? Like the original, our list includes "fine food, strange food, everyday food and even some pretty bad food"--but in our universe, it's all sweet! (In case any of them are foreign to you, links to pictures and recipes are included; also, for any vegans, feel free to go through the list assuming it's a vegan counterpart). How many have you tried? If you'd like, feel free to follow the same guidelines:"

1) Copy this list into your site, including the instructions!
2) Bold all of the sweets you've eaten!
3) Cross out any of them that you'd never ever eat.
4) Consider anything that is not bold or crossed out your "To Do" List.
5) Optional: Post a comment here linking to your results--or just post a comment letting us know how many you've tried, or what you're going to try next!

Free Cupcakes!

Yes you heard right! Free cupcakes! A whole bunch of them!
Work has been a bit wild and crazy these last few days as we're gearing up for the annual Out and About in Rockridge Festival this Sunday. Our store hosts a Picnic in the Street at the festival every year, giving away tons of treats and talking to folks about food. This will be my first year working the event, and I'm excited to be manning the cupcake table. We're having a kids cupcake decorating station, and I'll be on hand to help them frost and sprinkle their own little cakes. And I'm pretty sure no one will turn you away if you're over 18 and want to have some fun too.
I made forty pounds worth of vanilla frosting yesterday! Good heavens it was impressive to look at. We're going to have 250 each vanilla and chocolate cakes, with both vanilla and chocolate frosting. It's the largest amount of cupcakes I've made in one go. I'm a little sad that I won't be getting there until the last few hours of the event (due to having to work my other job in the morning), but hopefully I'll still get to help lots of kids have fun. What could be better than helping them make cupcakes? I mean really...
So if you're in the Bay Area come on by. We're also giving away turnovers for the more savory folk. I'd recomend the chicken, its yummy. The spinach on the other hand.... just don't choose than unless you LOVE mint in your savory food.
I almost forgot, there is also a cookbook exchange! Bring a book, take a book. I'll be bringing a copy of Hello Cupcake!

Buttercream Poll

In a recent post on the site Cupcake Takes the Cake the swiss meringue buttercream frosting at the bay area Kara's Cupcakes recived a poor review. They thought the frosting too thin. I know I've heard other people complain about that style of frosting being too buttery, or not sweet enough.
I know many people (especially kids) prefer the more American style butter/powdered sugar mix for their cupcake frosting. But what do you, oh blog reading foodies, prefer?

A little swiss meringue action, made by me using the recipe on How To Eat A Cupcake

Or do you prefer something entirely different?

Wedding Bliss

Well it's been a wild and crazy few weeks here in the Cake Queendom. I shall soon be posting all about the baking mayhem that preceded the wedding, but I'll have to wait until I get the pictures back.
The wedding, and all the food, went perfectly. I made Gingerlimeade, rhubarb juice, rhubarb meringue tartlettes, vanilla cupcakes, lemon cupcakes, and jalapeno cupcakes. The rest of the food was provided by friends and family. I made only a few of the jalapeno cupcakes thinking most people wouldn't be that brave, and they were by far the favorite item! Everyone loved them. Who knew?
I don't have much energy or brain power right now, so I'll just end with a photo of my favorite wedding gift :)
